RI RAC event to feature several companies including MATLET Group
Pawtucket, RI – June 8, 2011 – Over 100 businesses have been invited to
attend the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development Council’s (GNEMSDC)
annual Rhode Island Regional Advisory Committee’s (RAC) Corporate Reception, to
be held June 14 at the Citizens Bank Plaza in Providence. The MATLET Group will
be one of the featured Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) on the program.
The GNEMSDC was founded in 1975 and the non-profit agency is one of 36
regional affiliates of the National Minority Supplier Development Council
(NMSDC). As one of the country’s leading corporate membership organizations and
the only national organization of its kind, the NMSDC provides a platform in
which companies of all sizes and industries can network to significantly
increase the procurement opportunities between corporate members and certified
minority owned businesses.
In order to provide better services for the
entire service area, GNEMSDC created Regional Advisory Committees. The RACs were
established for Rhode Island, Fairfield, Hartford and New Haven Counties in
Connecticut, the greater Boston market and in northern New England.
"GNEMSDC has strong participation among companies in Connecticut and
Massachusetts," said Gary Stiffler, CEO of The MATLET Group. "By serving as
co-chair of the Rhode Island RAC, my goal is to help increase membership and
participation of Rhode Island-based business at the Council."
Lynette
Shenefield, Vice President and Supplier Diversity Program Manager at RBS
Citizens Bank, is co-chair of the event with Mr. Stiffler. Ms. Shenefield said
many of the corporations invited have expressed interest in learning about the
benefits of joining the GNEMSDC and Rhode Island RAC.
"We host events
each year and this one will address the benefits of membership for Rhode Island
corporations and other important topics of interest," Shenefield said. "The
Rhode Island Regional Advisory Committee is devoted exclusively to provide
in-state corporations with the information necessary to better understand the
advantages of working with minority suppliers and having access to qualified
vendors."
Several Rhode Island based companies are GNEMSDC/NMSDC
corporate members and will be recognized at the June 14 event, which runs from
6-8 p.m. Dr. Fred McKinney, President & CEO of GNEMSDC, will provide an
introduction. Citizens Bank and CVS Caremark are the featured corporations on
the program, and Banneker Industries, Inc. will join The MATLET Group as
featured Minority Business Enterprises. Contact Andie Kim for more information
